Sweden pet travel requirements
for dogs, cats, and ferrets
Sweden does not allow young pets under 16 weeks. EU Pet Passport and current rabies vaccination are required for entry.
What your pet needs for Sweden entry
-
1
Microchip (ISO 11784/11785)
Must be implanted before or on the same day as the rabies vaccination.
-
2
Rabies vaccination β 21-day wait for primary vaccines
Boosters given within validity have no wait. Lapsed boosters restart the 21-day clock.
-
3
EU Pet Passport or Animal Health Certificate (AHC)
EU/EEA-origin pets need a valid EU Pet Passport; arrivals from other countries need a government-endorsed AHC issued within 10 days of travel.

Travelling to Sweden with your pet
Sweden is a beautiful destination with extensive forests, an archipelago coastline, and a deeply outdoor culture β dogs are welcomed almost everywhere, from hiking trails to lakeside cottages. However, Sweden has not opted into the EU young-pet derogation: pets under 16 weeks of age cannot enter Sweden, and pets that have completed vaccination but not the full 21-day wait are also ineligible.
For adult pets, Sweden applies standard EU Regulation 576/2013: microchip, valid rabies vaccination, EU Pet Passport for intra-EU travel, or AHC for pets from outside the EU/EEA. No tapeworm treatment, no pre-notification for standard movements, and no quarantine. The Swedish Board of Agriculture (Jordbruksverket) is the competent authority.
Sweden is accessible by ferry from Germany, Denmark, Poland, Estonia, Finland, and Latvia.
