Liechtenstein pet travel requirements
for dogs, cats, and ferrets
Liechtenstein is an EEA member following EU pet travel rules — your pet needs a valid rabies vaccination and an EU Pet Passport or Animal Health Certificate.
What your pet needs for Liechtenstein entry
-
1
Microchip (ISO 11784/11785)
Must be implanted before or on the same day as the rabies vaccination.
-
2
Rabies vaccination — 21-day wait for primary vaccines
Boosters given within validity have no wait. Lapsed boosters restart the 21-day clock.
-
3
EU Pet Passport or Animal Health Certificate (AHC)
EU/EEA-origin pets need a valid EU Pet Passport; arrivals from other countries need a government-endorsed AHC issued within 10 days of travel.

Travelling to Liechtenstein with your pet
Liechtenstein is a tiny principality in the Rhine valley between Switzerland and Austria, and an EEA member following EU Regulation 576/2013 for pet travel. EU/EEA pets need a valid EU Pet Passport with a current rabies vaccination. Non-EU pets need a government-endorsed AHC.
Liechtenstein and Switzerland are in a customs union and share an open border — entry from Switzerland involves no formal border check. The nearest major airports are Zurich (about 90 minutes by road), Innsbruck, and St Gallen-Altenrhein. The Alpine landscape around Vaduz and the Malbun ski resort offers outstanding summer hiking with dogs. Note that if you enter Liechtenstein via Switzerland, your pet's documents also need to meet Swiss requirements — Switzerland is Part 1 equivalent for pet travel, so the rules are identical.
