Travelling to Cyprus with your pet

Cyprus is an island state in the eastern Mediterranean, and its pet entry rules include a mandatory 48-hour pre-arrival notification. All pet owners must notify Cyprus Veterinary Services at least 48 hours before arrival — this applies regardless of the pet's country of origin. Entry is permitted only via Larnaca Airport, Paphos Airport, and four seaports: Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, and Latchi Marina.

Cyprus also enforces breed-specific legislation — certain dogs may be subject to restrictions or require permits. There is no tapeworm requirement, and no quarantine for compliant pets. EU/EEA pets need a valid EU Pet Passport; third-country pets need a government-endorsed AHC valid for 10 days. The Ministry of Agriculture's Veterinary Services is the competent authority.

Frequently asked questions

How do I submit the 48-hour pre-arrival notification for Cyprus?
Contact the Cyprus Veterinary Services (Ministry of Agriculture) at least 48 hours before your planned arrival. Their contact details and notification forms are available at moa.gov.cy. When arriving by sea, contact the port veterinary office; for air arrivals, contact Larnaca or Paphos Airport veterinary services.
Can I enter Cyprus via a private yacht or boat?
Cyprus designates specific entry points for pets: Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos seaports, Latchi Marina, and the two airports. Entry via non-designated ports is not permitted for pets. If arriving by private yacht, ensure you dock at an approved port and have submitted 48 hours advance notice.
Does Cyprus have a quarantine requirement for pets?
No quarantine is required provided all documentation is in order — valid microchip, current rabies vaccination, EU Pet Passport (or AHC for non-EU pets), and 48h pre-arrival notification confirmation. Pets arriving without documentation may be detained by veterinary authorities at the port of entry.
